Welcome to the Fontana School District website! Our primary goal at Fontana is to provide a strong educational foundation for each student and to lead our students down the pathway of life-long learning.

Fontana Elementary School provides a safe and respectful learning environment for each student. A comprehensive Character Education program remains a focus in our building as we strive to build a strong foundation of mutual respect. Students meet in multi-aged community groups to discuss the monthly topics and to strengthen character traits. In 2011-2012, we will integrate our Character Education program with the implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) to provide a systemic approach to reinforcing positive behaviors and expectations through-out the school.

Student achievement remains a primary focus. Last year, our staff looked deeply into our student data to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement with each student. Teachers used the MAP testing data to set individual goals with their students and to determine additional support and interventions needed. This was monitored through-out the year and summarized after the spring testing. We definitely saw a difference when students became engaged in their own academic development.

Our focus for the 2011-2012 school year will be on standards based grading. We feel strongly that assessing students based upon set learning standards will provide more accurate and detailed information for parents.
