My name is Nikki McGuire, and I’m the School Social Worker here at Fontana School. My role is very similar to a school counselor, but with an added focus on supporting the whole child; their emotional, social, and family well-being.

As a school social worker, I visit classrooms to teach social-emotional learning lessons, where students practice skills like empathy, problem-solving, managing emotions, and building healthy relationships. I run small groups and meet individually with students who may need extra support with things like coping skills, friendships, school stress, or challenges at home. I partner with families to help connect them to resources such as counseling, food programs, clothing support, or community services. I collaborate closely with teachers and staff to make sure every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

I also help with practical needs, such as the free and reduced lunch application. If you need one, please let me know!

My favorite part of this role is building relationships with students and families. I want you to know that my door is always open, and I truly look forward to connecting with you throughout the year.
