School update

Hello Falcons!!

Week 13 had some feeling like spring with a few 50 degree days!  It was great to be outside and comfortable this late in the year, but don't forget we are actually in winter and cold weather gear is always appropriate (gloves, hat, boots, winter coat).  Here are FIVE things to know this week:

  1. We were excited to welcome the World's Tallest Glass Tree team for an assembly again this year.  They did a great job talking about recycling, taking care of our resources, and the fun world of glass blowing.  They will be building the glass tree at the Yerkes Observatory again this year each weekend leading up to Christmas.
  2. We again partnered with the local Big Foot Area Schools to collect food for our local food pantries.  We competed against Delavan/Darien and Lake Geneva Badger.  Collectively, we were able to give 2000 pounds of food to the area food pantries and our Big Foot Area Schools won the contest, collecting 1100 pounds of food!!  Our student council raised almost $700 with our penny war, which was used to purchase food for our community!!
  3. This past week a group from the Big Foot Country Club donated gifts to our school for family Christmas gifts.  With their kind donation we are able to support families with gifts for the holidays.
  4. The Coffee Mill is a wonderful partner to our school that donates holiday gifts through their giving tree.  We are so fortunate to live in a community that cares, gives, and provides service above self!!
  5. Our Christmas Concert is this coming Tuesday, December 12th.  The General Music concert will begin at 6pm with the Choir and Band portion to follow at 7pm.   Our 2nd Annual Bake sale will also take place that evening as a fundraiser for needed band equipment!!  A sign up sheet is HERE to volunteer and/or provide goodies.  Mr. Smith's famous cake may be making another appearance for auction as well!!
  6. BONUS--I wanted to welcome our volunteer basketball coaches (Finn Gerard and Aubrey Marks) who started this week.  They are National Honor Society students from Badger High School and Finn is a Falcon Alumni doing great things in high school.  They have jumped right in and are supporting Mr. Hoey with our hoops teams!!

We have two very busy/full weeks of learning, family, and fun coming up.  Don't forget, one of our most treasured traditions at Fontana (crafty critters) is this coming Friday, December 15th.  Students make/create different gifts for their families with our PTSO and parent volunteers.  Thank you and have a great weekend!
