School update

Hello Falcons!!

Well, week 18 brought an entire winters worth of snow in just 5 days.  Our decision making for winter weather begins and ends with safety for our entire school community.  Here are FIVE things to know this week:

  1. We had two snow days this week, which were built into our school year without the need to make-up any time.  For the remainder of this school year any additional snow days will become virtual learning days.  This will mean different expectations, depending on your child's grade level, but know that we will continue to communicate and work on the best plans possible for any additional weather disruptions to our school year.
  2. Please be sure to bundle up and send your Falcon with warm clothes this week.  It looks like temperatures could be well into the negative degrees, with windchill, and we want to be sure our students are safe.  Like a snow day, we work with the National Weather Service, local administrators, and transportation services when making decisions.  Generally speaking, when temperatures get to a sustained level at, or below, -35F we consider alternatives to in-person learning.  Feel free to reach out with any questions to storrez@fontana.k12.wi.us as we navigate the remainder of our winter weather.
  3. Our 8th graders had a visit this week from the Big Foot staff regarding class selection, registration, and transitioning to high school.  It is exciting to watch our oldest Falcons begin their journey to the next level and beyond.  Thank you to our partners at Big Foot high school and Mrs. Kara Gregory, school counselor, for all of the information.  Our 8th grade families are encouraged to reach out the Mrs. Gregory and Big Foot with any high school questions along with our middle school staff here at Fontana.
  4. Our girls basketball season kicked off this past Thursday with a game at Woods school.  It was a great game and fun to extend our season with some additional games outside of our consortium.  Great job girls and coaches!  Game days are typically Tuesdays and Thursdays and we look forward to seeing you at our games to cheer on the teams!
  5. This coming Friday, January 19th, is a non-attendance day for our Falcon students (no school Friday, January 19th, 2024).  Our staff will be doing professional development, planning, and working together that day to review our first semester along with planning/developing our second semester.

Be safe, have fun, and enjoy the winter wonderland being created today.  Have a great weekend Falcons and see you Monday!
