School update

Hello Falcons!!

We had another productive week, which was our 25th of the school year.  We welcomed March in this week and spring is well on its way.  Booker T. Washington stated--Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way, which is what our parents, staff, and community do on a daily basis at Fontana!  Here are FIVE things to know this week:

  1. Mark your calendars for the premiere of Klay Kong March 8th and 9th at 7pm in the Fontana gym. You don't want to miss the first ever Fontana Film Club original movie! Admission is FREE, and donations accepted to support our film and arts programs at the school!  Guests will be given popcorn (while supplies last) upon arrival. The event is expected to be about 45 minutes long. Lights...camera...ACTION!
  2. This past week was Dr. Seuss' birthday and we were fortunate to have our annual visit from the Cat in the Hat.  The Cat delivered cupcakes for every student  (thank you PTSO) and made celebrity appearances throughout the building!  This tradition is enjoyed by all ages!!
  3. We are seeking preliminary interest for summer band lessons here at Fontana. Filling this out does not commit you to anything, it is just to give a general sense of how many people may be interested to fit it into everyone's summer schedule. Lessons will tentatively start in July and occur weekly at the same designated time every week. Please only fill out this form if your student is interested in taking summer lessons. Thanks very much and let me know if you have any questions!!

  4. At our last board meeting we reviewed some DRAFT drawings of potential upgrades to our school's main entrance.  Our school board and school staff prioritize school safety and some areas we are looking to upgrade is our main entrance, main office, and centrally locating our support staff (i.e. social work, speech, health etc.).  More information to come, but we are excited to work with McKinstry on this potential summer project.
  5. Reminder that our school wide Kindness Week will be held next week March 4th-8th. See info/activities below:
    • We will have kindness bingo cards for each grade level. If a student earns a bingo they will earn a prize. BONUS prize for students who get a "blackout" (completed all of the kind acts on their card).
    • We will have special announcements each day regarding kindness.
    • We will have a kindness jar in the office where students, staff, and families can give shout outs to specific people who have been kind to them and describe what the kind act was (these will be used for announcements too).
    • Ice cream cart will come around to all classes on Friday, March 8th!
  6. (BONUS)--Our monthly PTSO meeting will be held this Wednesday in the school library from 7-8p.  Our PTSO is a great way to be involved with the school with so many supportive and fun parents who continue a long tradition of hands on support, fundraising, and activity coordination all school year!  Consider giving a meeting a try and see what the hype is all about!

Have a great weekend Falcons and see you Monday!
