Each year our 7th grade students take a field trip to Yerkes Observatory. They get to experience the world's largest refracting telescope along with the rich history of astrology and science in our area! Thank you to Yerkes Observatory, our staff, and PTSO for your continued support. The students also get a fun walking field trip back to school along the Lake Geneva shore path. #flyintoexcellence #unitedweSOAR

Our fall season has gifted our school with beautiful weather to be outside learning. Our middle school math students took to the blacktop to practice and work together. We are grateful for our outdoor spaces and fun learning opportunities. #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

What we focus on matters. There are hearts and good everywhere if we are looking for it! Happy Friday Falcons #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

What a great homecoming week that was met with some members of the Fontana class of '80 and Big Foot class of '84. There are so many Falcons doing great things in our world! Great to connect and learn about Fontana in the 80's! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Thank you @Fontana Fire Department for your time and support of our school. We always look forward to our time during fire prevention week learning about safety in our homes, schools, and community. #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Our middle school Ecology Club had another great opportunity to work with the Geneva Lake Environmental Agency along with Jesse Weinzinger, an aquatic zoologist from the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources, GEI Consultants Inc, student interns from the Badger High School Agriscience program, and the DNR. Our Falcon students helped complete a macroinvertebrate study, learned about the immense biodiversity in Geneva Lake, invasive species, and what they can do to help preserve the beauty and health of our lakes area. Special thank you to Jake Schmidt from GLEA for helping to put this together! #unitedweSOAR

This past week our cross country team had their two home invites at Duck Pond. They were able to run in some cooler temps on Monday and got to experience a nice flat fast course. Thursday they ran the same course, so knowing what to expect they pushed hard. Lots of personal best and Falcons in the top 12 for boys and girls. We said goodbye to the girls as volleyball starts, but the boys look forward to competing Tuesday at the Jefferson Invite. #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Middle school students had a lot of fun celebrating International Coffee Day in Spanish class this past week. No worries, the cafe was decaf!! Students also learn about the sombrero vueltiao, a traditional Colombian hat that is a symbol of Colombia. #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

You never know where a heart might show up!! If you are looking for good, you will find good all around you. Find you Heart this week! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Falcon REMINDER: Picture Day is tomorrow, Tuesday September 24th. Bring your brightest smile and fanciest outfits for our annual picture day! :)

Hello Fontana students and staff,
Thank you to everyone who has been following along with our musical guessing game throughout the week. It has been so fun to hear all of the discussions and guesses! We wanted to give you some explanation for what the clues meant before our final reveal-
1) The first clue, The Elf, represented a poem called "The Elf Child" which was the original inspiration for the concept of this show.
2) The second clue, the Tony Award, represented the fact that this show has won several Tony Awards, which are awards for professional theater.
3) The third clue, the number 47, represented that the musical adaptation of this show debuted 47 years ago.
4) The final clue, the cleaning supplies, represented something that our main character does a lot of in the show.
We hope you had fun this week with trying to decipher these clues and we are so excited to announce that our musical this year will be Annie Jr!

Our XC team competed against Williams Bay Middle School this past week, and had the chance to run with the high school team as well. They battled in the heat all week, but still pushing themselves and improving their times.
They also traveled to the Elkhorn Middle School for their first big invite of the season. The team did awesome. A lot of runners in the top 20 with 18 schools competing. Next week the team will be competing at Duck Pond Monday at 4pm and Thursday at 330pm for our two home invites. We hope to see you there!

Every year our 8th grade group takes a full day in September at the Outdoor Wisconsin Leadership School (OWLS) for leadership and teambuilding activities. There is a change, in just one day, in the students perspective on their own strengths and areas of growth while also identifying leadership skills they all have. Listen to what some of the students had to say when processing their day:
"Listening more to others opinions can help come up with a better solution"
"I learned that using other peoples ideas can be beneficial and my ideas are not always the best option"
"Using my voice more can help in building my leadership skills"
"I may not always hear someone correctly, which can be a weakness, but I will make sure to ask others to repeat what they said for clarification"
"I tried the high ropes even though I was afraid and it was fun"

Last Tuesday our joint (BFAS) cross country team traveled to Harvard for their middle school invite. We had 6 Fontana students participate. Harvard set up a challenging trail run with some rough conditions, but the kids ran hard and performed well. This course is also the longest they will see all season by racing 2 miles. We had runners for boys and girls place in the top ten, and as a team swept the competition. We look forward to seeing everyone today at 430pm at Big Foot High School for our second meet of the year!! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Our staff is excited to share the new musical for this school year! To make it fun, we will be sharing clues about the musical to see who can guess correctly! The clues will be posted in our main lobby area of the school. Share your guesses in the comment section or let Mr. Smith/Ms. Jacoby know your guess! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

A BEFORE and AFTER picture when you ask elementary students to make a silly face! :) So much fun at recess today!

During inservice week our staff discussed finding "hearts" and we challenged our staff to find naturally occuring hearts and/or kindness in our school and lives everyday. We believe, if you look for the good around you, you will in fact, find good. There can be shadows, onions, or playdough that create hearts in our day or it can be an act of kindness that makes someone's day. We challenge our Falcon community to find a heart each day as there is so much good and kindness all around us! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

We had many Falcons showing off their skills this summer at the Walworth County Fair and had another student giving Backgammon a try! Great job and keep up the great work, your Fontana family is proud of your accomplishments and hard work! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Bring your brightest and best red carpet smiles tomorrow as we celebrate the amazing return of our Falcon students and staff!! Our doors, as always, open at 8am and school starts at 8:15a. See you tomorrow Falcons!! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence

Hello Falcons!
Don't forget, we have our annual open house tonight from 5-6:30p for all 1st through 8th grade students. Drop off school supplies, meet your teacher, and get comfortable with the building before the first day of school.
Once you finish at open house, don't forget to get some treats at Meggy Moo's in Walworth, which also doubles as a fundraiser for our PTSO. See you tonight Falcons!!
