Did you know: Fontana Joint 8 School District is in the final year of a four year, non-recurring referendum. We not only followed through on our promise to have lower tax rates over the last four years, we also significantly improved our educational opportunities, raising our school report card from 67.1 in 2022 to 81.8 in 2025.

There will be a new four year, non-recurring operational referendum, on the April 7th ballot to allow our school to continue offering small class sizes, attract/retain high quality staff, building operations/maintenance, and quality/individualized education.

A huge thank you to all the parents who took the time to visit our 3–5 classrooms for Career Month! The students loved hearing from you and are already feeling inspired as they begin thinking about what they might want to be when they grow up. :)

AAS Announces 2026 Shapley Lecturers
The American Astronomical Society (AAS) has selected 21 astronomers who will form the 2026 cohort of AAS Shapley Visiting Lecturers. These lecturers will visit a number of schools and community institutions across the US to share their science, inspire wonder about the universe, and build lasting connections to these communities.

This year's 21 astronomers will visit destinations in 17 US states covering a wide swath of the country. Each Shapley Lecturer will deliver a highly accessible presentation about their scientific work to public audiences at each destination. Each visit will also include 2–3 days of local engagement with schools and community organizations, creating opportunities for students and members of the public to meet a scientist.

In partnership with Yerkes Observatory, Fontana Joint 8 School District, and Lecturer Brad Newton Barlow were selected as a AAS Shapely Visiting Lecturers destination in 2026!! We are super proud to be chosen as one of the 21 sites nationally for this prestigious program. Thank you to Mrs. Rabe for helping coordinate this exciting event for the 26/27 school year!! Hello Fontana!!! We are getting sooooo very close to our goal of 800 cereal boxes in our cereal box challenge. Did you know, the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank in Elkhorn distributes at least 400 boxes of cereal each month? Our goal of 800 was not random, but a stretch goal to meet the Food Banks need for cereal for two months. We can do it Fontana and there is still time to donate!! Attached is an updated number of collected boxes per grade.

Congratulations to our 6th-grade students who have successfully completed their certification through the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), earning independent access to the FAB Lab. NC3 is a vital partner in our STEAM curriculum. By integrating industry-standard testing at the middle school level, we allow students to explore high-demand career paths early with hands-on learning. #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence Our comprehensive STEAM programs provide students with real world application and certifications to take with them to high school and beyond!!

You may notice the large rectangles of snow in the front of our school. In years past we have actively participated in snow sculpting in Lake Geneva, however, we have the benefit of using our own snow molds to allow our students to snow sculpt right at school. Watch as our middle school students turn those rectangles into works of art!! #unitedweSOAR #flyintoexcellence
